Strengthen Workers’ Political Voice
SEIU members get involved to win good jobs and public services, with stable funding for which corporations and the rich pay their fair share.
In 20 years:
- SEIU members will become an even more effective political voice for quality services and strong communities by engaging in political action and participating in COPE in unprecedented numbers.
- Our political strength will win a comprehensive tax system that raises the necessary funds to pay for our communities’ service needs and infrastructure and restores fairness. Corporations and the wealthy will contribute their fair share, allowing for a reduction in the share of taxes contributed by working families. The tax system will reflect changes in the population, technology, and globalization.
Our four-year plan:
- Engage more members and retirees in political action. Develop a sustainable Member Political Organizer program to develop leadership and build strength.
- Increase members’ influence on election day. Increase the percentage of members registered to vote by 10% and the number of members elected to state legislatures and local governments. Reach our SEIU COPE membership goals for a stronger voice.
- Hold politicians accountable for funding public services. Hold elected officials accountable for making everyone pay their fair share in funding public services. Use proactive strategies, including ballot initiatives, legislation, and state policies, to win improvements. Defeat regressive state and local tax ballot measures and eliminate special federal tax cuts for the wealthy.
