A New Way
We've been looking into the future. Not to predict the weather, or who will win the World Series. We are looking into the future so we can help create it.
In previous years, SEIU has always planned in four-year convention cycles. One of the many things we've been learning is that the world of public services is changing dramatically. Our old approach, to plan incrementally led to incremental success, incremental success that if continued, won't keep pace with the dramatic changes we will experience in the near future.
We want dramatic, real change for many more workers. We want dramatic success. So this time, we are doing it differently. We are engaged in a visioning process that is unlike anything we have done before:
- We assembled a cross-functional vision team to develop questions, conduct research, pose challenges, and debate possibilities.
- We created a process where we would look not just at our next steps, but at where we want to be 20 years from now, and we charted our course toward that bold, north star.
- We engaged in highly participatory dialogues to create a conversation among all of us about what we care about, individually and collectively, about where we want to be in the future, and what it would take to get us there.
Highlights of our visioning process include:
- Research on how the world is unfolding in ways that impact the demand and delivery of public services. Learn more about how these changes will impact you and your children.
- A gathering of 250 SEIU members and leaders to discuss those research findings, and to debate who we are, and where we want to be 20 years from now -- what we want our children's union to look like.
- An interactive online webcast with members and division leaders. View the webcast, participate in the still-active polls, read the Q and A, and ask a question of your own.
